Managing Podcasts with Smart Playlists in iTunes
by Chris Christensen Add commentscategories: iPod, Podcasts
This is a screencast tutorial that shows you a better way to manage podcasts in iTunes than the one that iTunes provides (podcasts like the Amateur Traveler)
UPDATE: since I made this video Apple has made a change to iTunes, instead of the setting “Podcast” you now need to set “Media Kind” is “Podcast”.

Hi Chris–
thanks for the tip!
my first Smart Playlist
If you have a moment to answer—
I am listening to these on my iPod- will the iPod tell iTunes which podcasts I’ve listened to already?
Are there ways to adjust the labeling settings for podcasts? For example, NPR’s “Fresh Air” labels each podcast track as “NPR Fresh Air [+date].” Rather than the topics discussed. so my iPod listing offers me little insight as to what i’m listening to.
Thanks!

Yes, every time you sync iTunes finds out which podcasts you have listened to on the iPod.
I don’t know any way to use a smart playlist to relabel podcast episodes if I understand your question correctly.

I click on the title of this webcast but can’t seem to open and listen/watch. I have registered and subscribed to your podcast btw and listen to dozens of podcasts a week but need to organize them and itunes is not much help.
