Trash into Energy

Now here is a cool trick. SciFi.com caught this story about a cool experiment at Purdue:

Working on two problems at once, Purdue University researchers are building a prototype generator that would create useful energy by munching up all sorts of garbage. Dubbed the tactical biorefinery, it has soldiers’ needs in mind. They can tote this thing around to not only give them mobile electricity, but to take care of their garbage as well. It doesn’t seem to care what kind of junk you stick into it, which is pretty amazing. Just tip that trash can and power your plasma TV for a couple of days.

It supposedly would create 90% more energy than it uses, which is damned impressive. All right, when can this be ready for consumer use? Let’s see it, Purdue.
